The title of a chapter in .True stories of the SBS by Robin Hunter. Snippets from chapter 13 This activity was in full swing when Jellicoe received orders to take a squadron of the Special Boat Service back to Greece. He was to take command of a joint force rejoicing in the unlovely name of . Bucketforce. consisting of the SBS, a troop of the Long Range Desert Group, and a squadron of the R.A.F. Regiment.(equiped with anti-aircraft guns and armoured cars) and a detachment of sappers.
Jellico now a lieutenant Colonel of the SBS Regiment, arrived next day by air, and the seaborne contingent, largely composed of the R.A.F. Regiment landed that night at the port of Katakolon on the west coast of the Peleponnese . That night the security squadrons surrendered and were herded on to the elusive safety of a small peninsula behind Patras. While Patterson and his force, with a company of the R.A.F. Regiment entered the town of Patros, roaring up and down the streets in jeeps, S.A.S. fashion shooting up any Germans who showed themselves or showed fight. The Germans evacuated the town that night and withdrew in boats to the Greek mainland

The SBS were very successful among the Greek islands. But then Churchill intervened and ordered an invasion of some of the Greek islands. Which the Germans then launched a successful counterattack which retook the islands. The British forces were forced to surrender. The reason for the success is that the Germans had air cover and the British didn’t.
