A mate of mine works at Sunderland Air Museum where they have a tigercat (ex-Argie/ex 48 Sqn). He's been quizing me on operation deployment of said beast. (Dont know why I never worked on it, but did paint one once outside the hangar at Lossie).

As far as I can remember there is no search radar, so on tigercat there were 3 flights, 2 fire units and a 3rd flt that provided OPs. Any one care to confirm/deny and add anything else that may be of use.

I may try and lure him over here but as an ex-pongo he may be shy.

Cheers chaps

Lube him up thoroughly and his visit probably won't be that painful.

As ordered for the RAF Regiment and Imperial Iranian air force, this weapon system is mounted on two trailers towed by Land-Rovers. One trailer carries the three-round launcher; the other carries the aimer with his optical sight and control gear. The system comes in a quad launcher mounted on a vehicle or a triple launcher towed by a land rover carrying a radar unit. The system can also be deployed as two trailers. It is based on a 3-round, trailer-mounted launcher towed by a Land Rover, and a second trailer carrying the fire control equipment. The basic system is a radio guided version with an enhanced version using a radar for blind and dark fire capability.

The Tigercat missile is a small, subsonic missile powered by a two-stage solid fuel rocket motor. It is steered in flight by four swept, cruciform arranged wings and is stabilized by four small tail fins. It is guided by Command Line-Of-Sight (CLOS) via a radio-link; i.e. flight commands are transmitted to it from a remote operator using a joystick, with both the missile and target in sight.

I also remember the Sea cat outside of 48.......never painted it though

Hope this helps :guin:

I do remember working one particular weekend on the far side of Catterick airfield loading 40 footers with Tigercat systems we had "gifted" to a foreign nation.

We had been banished to the Swale end of camp in a bid to thwart members of the press who were taking a keen interest in our activities.

Hi,

I remember 15 Sqn doing a demo at RAF Catterick in about mid 1971, for some Germans I think.

We had our flights deployed by sections on the grass in front of the hangers, SF Kits and 84mm Charlie Gs on show.

Support Weapons had a Mortar Line set up.

AND

There was a manned Tigercat unit set up behind us, it was "working" in that it made a lot of buzzing noises etc, and also it was all white ?

I`m sorry I cant remember anything else from that day.

Regards, Mick D.
