A brief but interesting history.

My claim to at greenham common was i rolled a land rover with two young LAC in it with me and was kicked off the camp and got two weeks in jail, but it was worth doing the time than doing another two weeks of fence duty, the good point you could get a bj from the smellies through the fence all you had to do was be nice to them and give them some charcoal :laughingat: Oh i was also caught drinking with the smellies on my day off what a rock will do to get his leg over :niceone:

interesting history. lots of units went through. I went back there to a memorial for 30 glider troops of the US 17th airborne who, in a training flight prior to the rhine landings, the bolts holding the front and back of the glider in the air sheared causing the tail to fall away. The tug pilot had no choice but to cut the doomed glider away with the inevitable loss of all on board. There is a memorial there not far from the main gate.

I think - but I stand to be corrected - that II Sqn were the first there after the smellies arrived. We were there for two weeks when the GC to Aldermaston to <somewhere else> triangle was formed.

I know I went with QCS in 83. it was a three week tour as I recall..slept in those railway carriages. They rioted while we were there and I nearly got trampled when about two hundred breached the fence.
Went again with 19 with no notable occurences.

I have pictures somewhere... They tried to throw some 70 year old lady over the main gate when I was there. They never got in but they definitely tried a few times.
