I presume all this comes after failing your Pilot/Navigator Course? Or isn't that a prerequisite anymore?

No, no, I haven't. I suppose on that basis I should add "Joining the Regiment" to the "Yet another dumb fucking pongo" thread, really.

On a marginally more serious note, does anyone know how long the process takes, end-to-end? I'm aware that it's somewhere between a while and a bloody long time. What with having to obtain docs from Glasgow and so forth, is 12-18months a reasonable guess? Obviously keen to start sooner rather than later, but I don't want to find out I start IOT halfway through a tour in Helmand :)

All depends if you have actually submitted any paperwork yet.

IF this is from scratch, you could be looking at up to 2 years from having had the Grand Idea to drinking warm sherry with the Commandant General in the Blue Room at the Officers Mess at Honington, having passed out (again).

You will be interviewed to within an inch of your life: Pl/Coy Cdr, the Colonel will want a word and then you start the RAF process: having said that, if you have an ounce of 'it', that process can be completed reasonably quickly.

If you have'nt already done so, speak to a blue job at your local ACIO: they will give you a more accurate timeline. Remember, if there are not enough Regt officers passing out of Sleaford Community College (Cranwell), then your 'J' course could be 6-12 months from that date.

Thank you. I'll swing by the local AFCO next time I'm free and get the gen. Having only had an OC's interview a few months ago, I'm not in a hurry to have another soon if I can avoid it :)
