How's it going down in the outback rather then the panty waist coastal cities?

I'll bet they are dancing in the street, (they only have one), in their finest frocks too...

Thank God for the outback, still shagging Camels, but that's okay.

Hi Bill,

I've "heard" that you'll need a 2lb tub of Mint Flavoured KY Jelly and a set of 6 foot step ladders to shag a Camel ...:)

Also as the great comedian Dave Allen once said "Thank God I'm an Atheist"

Regards, Mick. D.

Interesting article which may allay some fears that the world is abut to end. Does one dare also mention Alan Turing, or even Alexander the Great?

Very interesting article Mark, enjoyed it thanks for posting.

Ginge,
If you don't know the difference between right and wrong you lack empathy not religion. It takes religion to make a good man do evil things not the other way around. If you find my taste for religion abhorrent that’s entirely up to you but frankly I find religion abhorrent.

There are around 1500 gods in the world that people follow. Each of the following of these gods think theirs is the only true god and the rest are stupid, I just go one god more than the rest.

Whether you like it or not your understanding of right and wrong came out of the Judeo-Christian roots of the society you grew up in which is much the same as the one I grew up in less the kilts... Thus preaching at me as if you are somehow superior because you are an atheist that has worked it all out on his own is a bit silly...

Interestingly, in Anthony Giddens' Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, he puts forward the point that before christianity, the Roman Empire was totally polytheistic, and people were quite happy with everyone around them worshiping who the hell they wanted. Indeed, one of the reasons it was was so successful for so long was that it did not persecute the religions of the territories they conquered. The Romans themselves seemed to be like your average mild mannered footie fans, each having civlised convos with each other about the merits or otherwise of their particular god. Subsitute a modern conversation about teams, and change teams to god, and you get the picture.
According to Giddens, the advent of christianity was the game changer, in that its early (as opposed to present) followers put the fear of god (quite literally) into non christians by saying you will only get to heaven if you follow one single god. It was this fundamental shift in religious outlook, and what at the time was massive intolerance by christians that was seen as a threat to the established Roman way of doing things, which led to the christians themselves being initially disliked, and then persecuted.
Giddens puts forward the view that if they'd loved their neighbours a little more at the time, they might not have been thrown to the lions.
I do like Bernard Cornwell's line from one of his Saxon novels, where two characters are discussing the Romans, and one says that when the Romans were pagans, they knew nothing but victory, and when they became christians, they knew nothing but defeat. Although that is taken from a work of fiction.
Just saying...

I do believe it's Father Ted... its sez so at the beginning of the clip :-D

Mark:

I think you missed the point earlier regarding the difference between gay marriage and the fear of gays. For reference, I don't see anyone here worrying about gay men or women, (I also don't see anyone here worrying about gay marriage really), but institutionalizing something that a country like the USA doesn't really want, (hence Trump's election), doesn't promote your leftist opinion.

I know it's all lovely and trendy over there in Europe but, generally, over here, the voters are pretty fed up with the weakening of their society and want something other than expensive suit and hairdo, max abuse politicians fucking them over...
