"SOLDIER Peter Walker sprints from court after his deadly secret was revealed – he stashed a cache of stolen weapons yards from a football field.
Plastic explosives capable of killing, smoke grenades, detonators which could blow off your hand, cartridges for ultra-powerful Magnums, and expanding bullets which explode on impact, were among his hidden arsenal.
The shock find sparked a major police operation with homes being evacuated and streets sealed off as specialist officers sped to the scene fearing terrorism.
Newcastle Crown Court heard how Walker, who worked as a telephone mast engineer and served with the TA’s Royal Engineers, had smuggled the explosives from military training sessions.
Walker, who was due to fly out to the frontline in Afghanistan in February when he was arrested, amassed his arsenal as a simple “enthusiasm”."
